How to register your child for kindergarten or school

We are delighted that you are interested in the German School Shanghai! Enrolment is possible year-round, provided that space is available and the educational framework conditions are met. Registration is completed via our   ¨C easy, digital, and transparent.

Admission Requirements for Your Child

  • Citizenship of the Family
    - German or other non-Chinese citizenship, or valid residence documents from Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan
    - Chinese citizens: official exemption permit required
     

  • Residence of the Family
    At least one parent must be working or living in Shanghai.
     

  •  Language Proficiency of Your Child
    - Kindergarten: Basic knowledge of German is desirable but not mandatory
    - Primary & Secondary School: preferably basic knowledge of German
    (minimum A1 level from Grade 4 onwards)
    If German is not your child¡¯s native language, we will conduct a language test to assess the proficiency.
    If your child lacks German language skills, we support their learning through our DaF/DaZ programme. Participation is mandatory and subject to additional fees.

Our Fee Structure

The following fees apply during the admission process:

Fee Amount (RMB) Due Date
Registration Fee 5000 (non-refundable) Upon submission of complete application
Admission Fee 30 000 Within 21 days of receiving the provisional offer of a place
Deposit 125 000 (corporate) / 75 000 (private) Within 21 days of receiving the provisional offer of a place
School Fee According to current fee schedule 21 days after invoice date

In justified individual cases (acute emergencies), it is possible to apply for temporary reductions in school fees. If you have any questions, please contact schulgeld@ds-shanghai.de.
